Dressing to impress - What to wear to get noticed!

Blog post #5

I hope all of our followers have enjoyed their Christmas and New Years breaks and are now back in the swing of normal life. We have been working hard at trying to get our range into stores to give you all a better chance of getting a hold of our stuff and being able to dapper up so to speak so you can impress when you hit the town! This brings us to our newest blog about how to coordinate your outfit to get noticed.

I've mentioned before that I am a pretty short guy but I am pretty adventurous when it comes to putting together an outfit. I have dabbled in some crazy outfits that involved military style, Napoleon jackets and bright fluorescent Louis Vuitton high top sneakers and some would say this is an over compensation for my deficit in the height department- I will obviously beg to differ haha!

Your outfit should portray a piece of you and it will make the first impression to anyone you meet out and about. It will also give a good indication about how confident you are as a person and it has been proven that 70% of someone's opinion of you will come from the way that you present yourself so why not try and give yourself the best possible chance by dressing smart. This counts more so for those who are single such as myself and can be a crucial part of either getting a chance to drop some witty pick up line like "Is your dad a mechanic, because you're a machine?" which will obviously blow her off her feet, or crashing and burning in the fiery depths of rejection because you look like the inspiration for Macklemore's 'Thrift Shop' song.

Lets start at my favourite part of all of my outfits, shoes. Girls love shoes, we all know this. They love them so much that we can be sure that this is one of the first thing a girl will look at when deciding whether to let you have a crack at the title. Like our good friend Forrest Gump once said, "You can tell a lot about a person by their shoes. Where they are going, where they have been..." So wear some nice shoes at a minimum! I personally own about 30 pairs of shoes but I generally wear about 3 pairs regularly which will make any outfit. One is a black pair of oxford style Julius Marlow's which were about $200, a tan pair of Industrie boat shoes which cost me about $50, and white low cut chucks which are my all time favourites and will last about 20 years. Your choice of shoes should reflect something modern and fashionable (oxford style with a bit of a point always goes down well or boat shoes are really in at the moment- Check out a reasonably cheap brand called Marco Gianni or Industrie) and they should obviously be comfortable! Remember leather shoes will wear in and will become more comfortable so please avoid synthetic shoes as they are plastic, they make your feet sweat and aren't going to stretch.

Tops are going to be the thing most people will see first and can also portray an image of why you are out and where you are going. In this hot weather its important to wear something that breathes well but you don't want to compromise on looks. The two main tops in my arsenal would be V-neck tees and button up collared shirts. A V-neck tee is really universal and it can be dressed up or down depending on the venue. I will generally wear a plain V-neck during the day with my rolled up chinos and at night I chuck on a light summer blazer which will get me into most places. It allows you to look more casual and care free than rocking a button up and you still look like you have made an effort with the blazer.

Most high end venues require a button up shirt these days so we need to make the extra effort. I have a huge collection of button up shirts but my favourite combination at the moment is a pair of either beige or black chinos and a pink oxford style shirt with sleeves rolled and top button done up. If you are game enough, bowties are the best talking piece with girls and I generally get a pretty positive response when I wear one. In my opinion its all about taking a bit of a risk to be different and you will set yourself apart from the rest.

You need to wear something that you are comfortable wearing and will give you the confidence you need to find your groove. If you feel good about how you look you will be more likely to make a good impression because you will be more concerned about the engagement in your conversation as opposed to worrying,  "do I look alright in what I am wearing?"

Just remember, if you are ever in doubt about what to wear please send us an email and we will try and put something together for you. I hope that this has helped some of you to work out how to keep up to date with the current styles and helps you to feel more comfortable in your choices of clothes. The photos give you some examples of the combinations available with our range so feel free to replicate them!

Best of luck and keep safe out there!
