Winter fashion insights from friends of Siete!

Blog post #6

Apologies for taking so long to make a new blog post but I have been really busy with the business and I have overlooked touching base with our loyal followers!

I really wanted to address winter fashion as we expect the temperature to plummet in the coming months and I personally dread the cold but I enjoy the ability to experiment with my style and make a statement. Winter to me screams big coats, leather gloves and scarves but I wanted to get the opinion of some close friends of mine that I have been working with lately to get their opinions on what winter fashion means to them and also to get some hot tips on what to keep an eye out for this coming season.

Firstly we have Jade Foster who is an up and coming male model based in Sydney. Jade has worked with Mossimo underwear, Mercedes Fashion Week and a number of campaigns for online businesses. With his recent birthday celebrations which we had the pleasure of styling him for we were able to interview him about what is important to him about winter fashion.

So what would you say the three most important things would be when dressing for winter?

"The three most important things to me about dressing for the cold would be individuality, practicality and standing out. I tend to spend alot of on the go especially when I am working for shoots and I really enjoy being comfortable. I find it all comes down to quality fabrics and in high stress situations when you are wearing something that doesn't breathe well I will sweat a lot which isn't a great look on a shoot!

What do you enjoy most about the colder months when it comes to putting together an outfit?

I really enjoy playing with colours and testing the boundaries of whats hot and whats not to create my own individual look. I really try to mix pieces together that normally wouldn't go together and attempt to blend them with contrasting pieces to create individual and inexpensive looks. Creating depth to my look is something I strive for and I am always looking for individual pieces in colours and patterns no one has seen.

What would you say your signature pieces are for this season?

My ankle high black lace boots are my favourite right now! I also have a new found obsession with chinos and weathered skinny denim. I also love unique wool and knits with contrasting patterns. Finally I would have to say my brown leather jacket.

Whats the next purchase on your radar at the moment?

I have been looking at this yellow and dark grey knit from general pants which is about $109. Like I said before, I have a soft spot for knits- excuse the pun!

and finally, if you were to give advice to our readers about how to plan to create a signature look this season what would you say?

Don't focus too much on the shirt as you will be layering anyway. Try and make your look with your jacket, shoes and accessories. If you are blending colours, try and do so with your accessories like a scarf or gloves which will help break up your style and give you edge. Baggy pants are way out of fashion so make sure your chinos or jeans fit well as I prefer wearing slim fit or skinny as they make you look taller and more distinguished. Finally I would have to say make sure you don't over do it with signature pieces. You really want one piece to make a statement like a stand out jacket or a vibrant accessory as it will make you stand out more!

Next we have Veronica Maree, an up and coming fashion stylist based in Sydney who started her expression of style at 15 when she would help out at mall fashion show events which involved going to stores and picking outfits that models would wear. Now at 20 she has worked on numerous photoshoots, film sets and recently designed a custom dress for a Miss Universe contestant. She plans to work on her own women's fashion line and is branching out into men's styling.

What do you like most about styling men for the colder months?

I would have to say my favourite part of styling men in colder months is forming an amalgamation of layers consisting of scarves, coats and knits. It's great to see the younger generation of men taking pride and putting effort into the way they style or present themselves.

What do you think will be a hit this season when it comes to winter warmers?

I would definitely have to comment on the fact that scarves are becoming more prominent in male fashion, especially this season. For example, the Burberry Fall/Winter 13/14 line featured tailored slim-lined suits with scarves and subtle animal prints. The scarves certainly added much needed detail to otherwise average minimalist styled suits. In the Versace Fall/Winter 13/14 line we also saw 'statement' prints with an 80's/aviator feel to the collection. The stand-out for this collection would certainly have to be the coats, which I would like to see men wear more of this winter.

Do you have any tips for the readers when dressing for this winter to try and stand out from the crowd on a budget?

I would suggest your readers to venture out of their comfort zones by finding smaller retailers who offer quality clothing at a much cheaper rate than major retailers. Adding pieces from these shops to outfits already purchased can change the look of an outfit entirely. I've seen plenty of small retailers offer pieces that challenge the leading retailers quality, but wont break the bank either. I would also recommend that for a polished look, not to leave out small details, like pocket-squares and ties/bowties which can be accentuated with a tie bar where possible.

A final note from Siete Clothing Co

As mentioned there are so many things to consider when putting together a signature look for winter. The best advice we can give is to keep it simple and make your statement using something like a tie, scarf or jacket. For our loyal customers and readers we will be releasing more of these items that you can use to complete your look over the coming months so keep an eye out for more releases soon.We will be releasing Autumn and Winter themed look books in the next few weeks!
