The heat is on its way! Preparing your wardrobe for summer

Blog post #10

As the temperature begins to soar, all I could think of is to sit in front of the television with the air conditioner on full blast. While most of us get used to the cool, breezy air that we enjoy for the rest of the year, it’s time to welcome the warmth of the sun and embrace this season with much enthusiasm.
There is no denying that the spring has come early and we are in for a hot Summer! Most of us would prefer to go out to swim or laze  on the beach. However, with this kind of weather, it is best to come out in light-weight and comfortable clothes or you’ll end up in a pool of sweat.
It seems difficult to maintain a sense of style during this time.  As most men browse through their wardrobe, they realize that they are unprepared for this season. Having very limited options in the warm weather, they tend to go with a classic t-shirt, shorts and flip-flops. While I prefer to keep things simple during the summer, I believe that there are a few simple tweaks that you can add to your look and beat the heat in style.
So, let’s explore some options, be stylish and stand out from the crowd during the summer months.

Short-sleeve shirts

A common choice for most men during this season. I’m sure most of you have dozens of shirts tucked inside your closet. Now is the perfect time to bring them out. It’s a great choice during the warm weather as long as you wear them correctly.
Having the right fit is the key to wearing a sleeveless shirt. Make sure that if fits you perfectly through the chest and shoulders. You don’t want it to be too clingy as it would get really uncomfortable as the heat becomes unbearable. Also, the sleeves should rest at mid-bicep and most people like to roll them up to give a more fitted look.
Keep it cool by purchasing shirts with light-weight materials such as linen or cotton as synthetic materials will make you sweat. It is best to stick to light-colored shirts which are proven to be cooler when out in the sun.

Go Sockless

During the rest of the year, you tend to keep your feet bundled up in those warm socks. Well, you won’t need those, especially with the kind of footwear used in this warm weather – sandals, boat shoes etc. It’s also an easy look that you can wear to the beach without worrying about getting sand everywhere and being uncomfortable.
Its truly liberating to get rid of your socks in summer but please take the necessary precautions to avoid the downsides associated with no socks. Talcum powder and bacteria spray are your best bet. They will definitely help prevent your shoes from smelling. If you’ll be doing some serious walking throughout the day, invisible socks could do the trick to avoid blisters.

Light Fragrances

Summer may be characterized as hot and heavy, but wearing heavy cologne that you used last winter is too much for this sweat-inducing season. Your natural scent combined with a weighty, woodsy scent may be nauseating during this season.
Summer is the perfect time to switch to a light and lean scent. Any perfume with a hint of grass or citrus notes is what you should get. My personal favourite is Issy Miyake Sports which has a great balance between citrus and woody scents which is light and refreshing for everyday use.

Polo Shirts

Undoubtedly, one of my favourite go-to choices in beating the heat in style is the trusty polo shirt.
Long gone are the days of Ralph Lauren’s collection of brightly coloured and retro patterned polos- make sure you choose the ones with simple designs and solid colors – white, black, gray, navy blue, along with light pastel colours. These shirts can be used for a casual night out, lazy afternoons laid back functions.
You can be adventurous with your look and play with different styles. I personally like to pair it with  slim chino shorts in a beige or brown colour for a laidback afternoon or with jeans for a smart casual look.

Sunglasses

As the summer season hits, it gives us the chance to play with accessories. While the sun is shining brightly, people bring out their sunglasses to protect their eyes from the sun’s glare.
Looking at someone, the first thing you see is their face. The sunglasses make a great fashion accessory. So make sure that you have the right pair of sunglasses and choose the one that would highlight your features. I find locating a good pair of glasses next to impossible as I have a pretty small face so my best tip for you is to go to sunglass stores and try on a variety of shapes, note down the serial numbers and try and find them online to save a few extra dollars.

Now that we have given you a few tips on how to stay fashionable this summer, go ahead and give it a try. Dress comfortably without sacrificing your style and enjoy the beginning of the best month’s of the year.
